Basic Guide to Weed ControlA vigorous, healthy turf is the best defense against weed invasion. Proper fertilization, mowing and watering are the key ingredients for building a dense, healthy lawn. The following are facts about weeds: • Weeds can be annual, bi-annual or perennial. • Weeds fall into two categories: grassy or broadleaf. • Weeds will readily invade sparse, poor quality turf. • Weeds may be removed mechanically by digging (all underground parts must be removed) or chemically by applying a herbicide or lawn fertilizer with a herbicide.
