 Weed Control

Basic Guide to Weed Control

A vigorous, healthy turf is the best defense against weed invasion. Proper fertilization, mowing and watering are the key ingredients for building a dense, healthy lawn. The following are facts about weeds:

Weeds can be annual, bi-annual or perennial.

Weeds fall into two categories: grassy or broadleaf.

Weeds will readily invade sparse, poor quality turf.

Weeds may be removed mechanically by digging (all underground parts must be removed) or chemically by applying a herbicide or lawn fertilizer with a herbicide.

Pre-Emergent Weed Control

Particularly effective in controlling weeds like crabgrass, goose grass, poa annua, foxtail and barnyard grass.

Should be applied before weeds emerge from the soil.

Post-Emergent Weed Control

Effectively controls dandelion, clover, chickweed, henbit oxtails and many other  broadleaf weeds.

Apply when the weeds are actively growing.

Apply when the lawn is wet from dew or sprinkling, and when rain is not
anticipated for at least 24 hours.

Do not apply on newly planted areas until they have been mowed

at least twice.

Steps to Effective Weed Control

Identify type of weed or weeds causing the problem.

Use the proper herbicide to control your weed problem.

Apply at the recommended rate and appropriate time.

Always follow application directions on the product label.
